Marquette, Michigan – January 3, 2017 – Marquette Area Public Schools is proud to announce that staff members Rebecca Simmons and Sara Cambensy have written a state championship winning grant in the “Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Competition.” Their win at the state level entitles MAPS to receive a $25,000 package of Samsung technology to support the efforts of their project which is aimed at providing students the necessary resources to study alternative energy and its application in solving local energy issues.
The next step for Simmons and Cambensy is competing against all state winners for a national prize. More work is yet to be done as they develop and submit a video that explains their vision as part of the next level competition. Additionally, the next round also includes a voting component for which they will need a network of support for their grant idea.
Both Simmons and Cambensy will be updating the Board of Education at the January 9 regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting starting at 5:30 in the High School library.
