Negaunee – The Heikki Lunta Festival will be held Friday, January 13 and Saturday, January 14 in Negaunee.
Friday events include:
Warmth and Refreshments at the Negaunee Elks at 6 p.m.
Kippis Lanta Snow Parade on Iron Street at 7 p.m.
Opening ceremony and Heikki Lunta costume contest following the parade in Breitung Park
Family fun with luge activities at Lucy Hill at 8 p.m.
Music and entertainment on Iron Street at 10 p.m.
Saturday events include:
Finnish pancake breakfast at Eagles Club from 9 a.m. to noon
Bake sale, food and refreshments, Finnish lessons with Tanya Stanaway, and talks by Bob Buchkoe and Karl Bohnack at the Negaunee Senior Center from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m
Fun with a special Cognition Heikki Lunta Brew, Trenary Toast eating contest, Yooper Scoop Races, a display from the Finnish-American Heritage Center, an obstacle course race, and much more at Old Town from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Family Fun at Lucy Hill from noon to 6 p.m.
Junior Ski Jumping Tournament at Suicide Hill at 1 p.m.
Ceremonial light of the bonfire and closing remarks plus the antics of Goofus (celebrating his birthday) at 5 p.m.
Ice Turkey Bowling at 6 p.m.
Fireworks over Old Town at 7 p.m.
Music with Conge Se Menne at Elks Club and music up and down Iron Street from 8 to 11 p.m.
