Marquette – CineArts Films, a series devoted to foreign and independent films, will screen “Love and Friendship” at a BYO dinner event on Friday, September 16 at 6 p.m. in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library.
Set in the 1790s, Love and Friendship centers on beautiful widow Lady Susan Vernon, who has come to the estate of her in-laws to wait out colorful rumors about her dalliances circulating through polite society. While there, she decides to secure a husband for herself and her rather reluctant debutante daughter, Frederica. Based on an early work by Jane Austen, the movie was filmed in Ireland.
The film will be introduced by Chet Defonso from the Department of History at NMU. Released in 2016, “Love and Friendship” runs for 92 minutes and is rated PG. Admission is free. Bring your own dinner or refreshments. For more information, call 226-4309 or visit www.pwpl.info.
