Marquette – In honor of May as Mental Health Awareness Month, Peter White Public Library’s Your Mind Matters series will offer a screening of “Love and Mercy” on Wednesday, May 18 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the library.
This biographical music drama is the story of 1960’s Beach Boys mastermind Brian Wilson during two distinct periods in the songwriter’s life. One timeline follows Wilson as he quits performing live in order to focus on the creation of the album Pet Sounds, the single “Good Vibrations,” and the eventually discarded album Smile. During this period of intense work, Wilson’s mental-health issues grow worse.
The other section of the film features an older Wilson, as he attempts to escape the influence of a manipulative doctor who has become a totalitarian guru to him. Helping him in this endeavor is a car saleswoman named Melinda.
The film premiered in 2014, is rated PG-13 and runs for 120 minutes. There is no admission charge. For more information visit www.pwpl.info or call 226-4318.
