Marquette – April is Poetry Month! Celebrate with Beverly Matherne, internationally acclaimed bilingual poet, at a reading from her newest book “Blind River” on Thursday, April 21 at 7 p.m. in the Shiras Room of the Peter White Public Library.
Born in River Cajun Country near New Orleans, Matherne grew up with the rich oral literature and music of the area: Cajun, country western, blues, and jazz. From writing in French to performing blues poetry, these influences have shaped her work. She recently retired from Northern Michigan University where she taught creative writing, was director of the Master of Fine Arts
program in English, directed its Visiting Writers Series and served as poetry editor of Passages North, NMU’s literary magazine.
A book sale and signing opportunity will follow the presentation. There is no admission charge. For more information, call 226-4318 or visit www.pwpl.info.
