Marquette – The Northern Michigan University music department will host a screening of the Royal Ballet production of “Romeo and Juliet” on Sunday, April 10 at 5 p.m. in 1100 Jamrich Hall at NMU.
Kenneth MacMillan’s poignant setting of Sergey Prokofiev’s classic score draws out the emotional and psychological intensity of the tragic tale of star-crossed lovers whose families are sworn enemies. The late MacMillan, former artistic director and choreographer for the Royal Ballet, first brought “Romeo and Juliet” to London’s Covent Garden in 1965, with Rudolf Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn in the title roles. The ballet has been at the heart of the company’s repertory ever since.
Admission is free for NMU students with ID, $5 for students under 18 and $15 for adults. For more information, contact the NMU music department at music@nmu.edu or 227-2563.
