Marquette – Michael Davis, composer and trombonist most widely known for playing with the Rolling Stones since 1994, will be the featured guest artist in the closing concert at the Northern Michigan University Jazz Festival. He will perform with the NMU Jazz Band and Jazz Combo on Friday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m. in Kaufman Auditorium.
Tickets are $6 for NMU students, $8 for other students and $11 for the general public. They are available at NMU EZ Ticket outlets.
Regional high school and middle school jazz bands will participate in clinics and performances at the NMU Jazz Festival from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Davis will lead guest artist clinics from 11-11:50 a.m. and 4-4:50 p.m. in 1100 Jamrich Hall.
Davis has enjoyed a diverse and acclaimed career over the past three decades. Before he played with the Rolling Stones, he toured and recorded with Frank Sinatra from 1988-1994. Davis has released nine solo CDs, composed more than 150 works, written 10 books and appeared on more than 500 CDs and motion picture soundtracks. He also is the founder and president of Hip-Bone Music Inc. In 2011, the S.E. Shires Company released the Michael Davis Trombone in his honor.
