Houghton, Michigan – November 15, 2015 – A group of Michigan Technological University students and community members are planning a peace march Sunday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. The march will line up at 6:50 p.m. next to the Walker Arts and Humanities Building, march through campus, downtown, and to the Houghton County Courthouse, where a moment of silence will be observed at 7:45

Recently an individual was charged with disturbing the peace for threatening the lives of black people. Tonight the students and community members will be marching through downtown to the courthouse to protest the lack of stringent charges pursued by the Houghton County Prosecuting Attorney.
“Our life is not a joke,” they said.
In support of the march, Les Cook, vice president of student affairs and advancement, said: “If there was ever a time to show our support of students, the time is now.”
