Escanaba, Michigan – November 9, 2015 – The City of Escanaba Department of Public Safety, in conjunction with the Community Foundation for Delta County, Bill Marmalick – Premier Real Estate, Crawford Funeral Homes, and JD Machine Tech, are teaming up with Feeding America West Michigan Food Bank to sponsor a mobile food pantry. The mobile food pantry will be held at the Escanaba Department of Public Safety, 1900 3rd Avenue North, Escanaba, on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 from 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M., just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.
During the mobile food pantry, event volunteers will be handing out approximately to,OOO lbs. of food including, but not limited to; varieties of produce and fruit, milk, yogurt, and other items. It’s estimated that there should be enough food on-site to feed up to 200 families. You DO NOT need to show proof of need to obtain food from this mobile pantry and everyone who suffers from food insecurity is welcome to attend and obtain food. Any food not handed out during this event will be donated to the food pantries who support Delta County.
Delta County has a food insecurity rate of 14.9%, meaning that approximately 5,500 people in the county have inconsistent access to healthy food. Because need is high and resources are scarce, addressing hunger in Delta County is major priority for Escanaba Public Safety, the supporting organizations, and Feeding America West Michigan Food Bank.
