Tech Hosts Live Twitter Chat about Dwindling Hunters – Nov. 12

Houghton, MichiganNovember 10, 2015 – Fewer people are hunting in Michigan, a trend affecting state agency budgets for environmental conservation. As the traditional father-son hunting culture ebbs, urban foodies, young women and other groups have taken up the sport.

On Thursday November 12 from 2-3 p.m. EST, Michigan Technological University will host a live Twitter chat about the science behind these hunting trends. Follow @mturesearch and join the conversation using the hashtag #mtulive.

Richelle Winkler, an associate professor of environmental sociology and demography, and Chris Henderson, Winkler’s graduate student, will lead the discussion. Henderson’s master’s work focuses on in-depth analysis of hunting and angling licenses in Michigan between 2012-2013 as part of Winkler’s broader analysis covering decades worth of data and trends.
