Wisaal Concert to be Held at NMU – Nov. 6

Marquette, MichiganNovember 4, 2015 – Wisaal, an Arabic-influenced world music ensemble based in Lansing, will perform a concert as part of the Northern Nights series at Northern Michigan University. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, in Forest Roberts Theatre.

Wisaal is an Arabic word meaning links, connections or unities.  The group performs classical Arabic instrumental pieces, contemporary fusion pieces and original compositions.  Arabic instruments—oud, percussion, and bass—are joined by Klezmer-influenced clarinet and American folk mandolin.  Contemporary fusion pieces and original compositions combine these various influences and allow for extended improvisations that showcase the different improvisatory traditions represented in Wisaal.

Ticket prices are: students/kids, $5 advance, $6 at the door; faculty/staff and seniors over 60, $15 advance/$17 door; and general public, $20/$22.  Tickets are available at all NMU EZ Ticket Outlets, by calling 227-1032, or online at www.nmu.edu/tickets.
