Help Hungry Children in Marquette at Cat Packs Rummage Sale – Oct. 3

Marquette, MichiganOctober 1, 2015 – Cat Packs, an NMU-initiated program that provides weekend meals to North Star Academy students from financially challenged families, will hold a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at North Star Academy. Donations of clothing, household items, appliances, books and baked goods can be dropped off at the school between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2. Any items remaining will be donated to the Salvation Army.

The idea for Cat Packs sprung from a group of NMU women in the fall of 2014 discussing ways to address childhood hunger. The NMU Volunteer Center took the lead coordinating the program in conjunction with Marquette Salvation Army and Coldwell Banker Schmidt Realtors. Children who receive free or reduced lunch during the school week receive Cat Packs on the weekend so that they have healthy, filling meals.

Monetary contributions are always welcome to help fund the program. For more information, email nmucatpacks@nmu.edu or call 227-2466.
