Negaunee, Michigan – October 9, 2015 – The Historic Vista Theater is proud to announce that they will present the Marquette County debut of “Superior: The Movie” on Tuesday October 13, 2015 at 7:30 pm. Admission will be $5.00.
MOVIE DESCRIPTION:
“During the height of the Vietnam War in 1969, Charlie is on his way to Michigan Tech University, and Derek is counting the days to his inevitable military draft eligibility. Before their futures take hold, the lifelong best friends embark on one final adventure: a 1,300 mile bike ride along the shores of the gargantuan Lake Superior. With two-speed Schwinn bicycles and limited preparation, Charlie and Derek pedal through the massive northern backwoods of Michigan, Minnesota, and Canada. Along the way they face hunger, exhaustion, and the kind of people in the world who never wanted to be found.”
The PAAC facilities are the 4th stop on “Superior Road Show” tour across the U.P., which includes stops in Sault Ste. Marie, Escanaba, Marquette, and Houghton, as well as Negaunee. Director, writer, and producer, Edd Benda, will be present for a special Q&A following the showing. Tracing the true journey of Benda’s uncle, Karl Benda, “Superior” was shot over the summer of 2014 in the Keweenaw Peninsula.
Originally debuting at the “Dances with Films” festival at the world famous Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles in June, it made its Michigan debut July 31st at the Calumet Theater in Calumet, and appeared at the Soo Film Festival earlier this month where it was named the “Audience Award” runner-up. Producers recently announced that the film has been named a selection for the “Heartland Film Festival” next month in Indianapolis. The Historic Vista Theater is the only stop on the “Road Show” in an actual theater, as the rest of the stops are at Upper Peninsula universities or community colleges.
“When I saw reports about the debut in Calumet in July, I immediately e-mailed the producers about screening the film at the Historic Vista Theater,” says PAAC Executive Director Andrew “Bear” Tyler. “This is a special chance for people in Marquette County to see a pre-theatrical screening of a movie, not only with local ties, like ‘America is Still the Place’, which was shown in July, but actually shot in the U.P. as well.” Media inquiries can be directed to Andrew “Bear” Tyler at the Peninsula Arts Appreciation Council.
Interview requests can be sent directly to Edd Benda (412) 708-8503 or edd@beyondtheporch.com
