Marquette, Michigan – Vintage Cinema presents a screening of Elia Kazan’s “On the Waterfront” starring Marlon Brando and Karl Malden on Monday, June 1 at 1:30 pm in the Peter White Public Library Community Room.
This film is about a priest who sets out to smash mob control over the New York City waterfront as an inarticulate longshoreman realizes what he could have amounted to in the world. Elia Kazan’s direction combined with Marlon Brando’s acting skill created this intelligent, superior piece of entertainment that won eight Academy Awards including Best Picture.
Two time Oscar winner Elia Kazan, received a total of 7 Oscar nominations for his films, winning Best Director for this film and for “Gentleman’s Agreement” (1947) He received an honorary Oscar in 1999 recognizing his long, distinguished, unparalleled career.
Released in 1954, “On the Waterfront” is shown in the original black and white and runs for 108 minutes.
