Marqette – Yukiko Washio, a candidate for assistant professor of psychology and co-coordinator of the applied behavioral analysis master’s program at Northern Michigan University, will present “Behavioral Principles to Reinforce Maternal Health Behaviors” on Monday, April 27 at 4 p.m. in room 167 Gries Hall at NMU.
Washio will address successful behavioral intervention related to smoking cessation among pregnant women, along with ongoing community-based behavioral research on breastfeeding, HIV risk and alcohol use problems among pregnant and postpartum mothers. She will explain why behavioral approaches are best for pregnant populations and how related community-based efforts are being used to examine and combat these health concerns among low-income, socioeconomically disadvantaged mothers.
