Munising, Michigan – Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore joins parks, programs and partners across the country to encourage everyone to find their park and share their stories online at FindYourPark.com. Launched last week by the National Park Service and the National Park Foundation, Find Your Park is a public awareness and education campaign celebrating the milestone centennial anniversary of the National Park Service in 2016 and setting the stage for its second century of service.
Find Your Park invites the public to see that a national park can be more than a place — it can be a feeling, a state of mind, or a sense of American pride. Beyond vast landscapes, the campaign highlights historical, urban, and cultural parks, as well as the National Park Service programs that protect, preserve and share nature, culture, and history in communities nationwide.
“Find Your Park” is also the theme for this year’s National Park Week, April 18 – 26. Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore invites you to come out to the park to search for spring! Take a walk on the half mile Sand Point Marsh Trail. Bring a pair of binoculars and watch for birds – look for spring migrants including raptors and songbirds such as rough-legged hawks, bald eagles, blackpoll warblers and eastern towhees. The sandhill cranes usually arrive in April as well. The Lyrid meteor shower is active each year from April 16 to 25. The Lyrids are predicted to be best between midnight and dawn on April 22 or 23. Grab a lawn chair, a sleeping bag to stay warm, and a thermos of something hot to drink and look up to the sky! April 18 is National Junior Ranger Day. Kids can pick up a junior ranger book anytime at the Interagency Visitor Center in Munising. And for anyone looking for fish, head to the streams for the steelhead salmon!

As the region transitions from winter into spring it is a great time to get outside and experience accessible areas of the park before the summer crowds arrive,” says Superintendent Mike Pflaum. “Come on out and find your park!”
