MARQUETTE – Steven Wiig is an actor best known for his roles in Sean Penn’s Into The Wild, Gus Van Sant’s Milk and Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master. Born and raised in Negaunee, Wiig attended Northern Michigan University before relocating to Minnesota to pursue music. For over a dozen years, he traveled the world working with the heavy metal band Metallica and played the drums in the Metallica side-project Papa Wheelie. His first appearance on the big screen was in the band’s warts-and-all documentary Some Kind Of Monster.
As a member of the Screen Actors Guild now living in the Northern California, Wiig has acted in close to thirty productions – including working with acclaimed directors such as Tim Burton and Woody Allen as well as on recent blockbuster movies like Godzilla and Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes. Upcoming films include James Franco’s childhood-inspired Yosemite, the 1970’s San Francisco Bay Area historical drama America Is Still the Place and Christopher Coppola’s vampire opera Sacred Blood.
Steven Wiig also stars in the award-winning black and white film Dead Metaphors in which he plays the lead role of Hank Nichols, a reclusive, self-destructive novelist. Wiig will provide an exclusive U.P. preview of the film — which features songs from Tom Waits — along with an in-depth discussion about working in the entertainment industry in a conversation with Stan Wright from WNMU FM Public Radio 90 (part of the NPR digital network).
You are welcome to join Steven Wiig & Guests at the Ore Dock Brewery after the show.
