MARQUETTE, MI – The City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center announces its June LSAA Gallery exhibition: Thursday Painters, titled “Sunrise, Sunset.” This exhibit will feature paintings in acrylics, oils and watercolors. The Thursday Painters group was organized over sixty years ago and current members are Marjorie Carlson, Esther Lepola, Shirley Michelson, Helen Steinhoff, and Betty Shirtz.
The June SmallWorks Gallery will feature artwork by painter and textile designer, Linda King Ferguson, titled “the Equivalence Series.” Ferguson received her MFA from Vermont College of Fine Art, where she worked with Michelle Grabner, Ulrike Muller, and Ruth Root, and a MA from Rhode Island School of Design. She received a BFA from Alma College, studied at Academia Di Belle Arti in Perugia, Italy, and Penland School of Crafts. She is currently contingent faculty at Northern Michigan University’s School of Art and Design. Ferguson maintains studios in both Brooklyn and Michigan.
The shows will be running from June 2 to 26 with an opening artist reception on Thursday, June 4 at 6 to 8 p.m. The public is invited to attend and refreshments will be provided.
