MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN – British organist and composer Paul Ayers will perform at Northern Michigan University on Sunday, April 19. His concert begins at 3 p.m. in Reynolds Recital Hall. There is no admission charge.
Ayers studied music at Oxford University and now is a freelance composer, arranger, choral conductor, musical director, organist and accompanist. His compositions usually involve word and he is particularly interested in working with pre-existing music. Ayers arranges folksongs, hymns, jazz standards and nursery rhymes and does “re-compositions” of classical works, such as Purcell’s Funeral Sentence, 4A Wreck and Messyah. He also leads education workshops for children and plays piano for theater productions and improvisational comedy shows.
