Peter White Public Library invites the public to a free screening of the modern classic film “Topsy-Turvy” on Thursday, February 19 at 6:30 pm in the library’s Community Room.
This biopic centers on comic opera composers W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. When lyricist Gilbert and composer Sullivan suffer their first failure, both men are depressed. Sullivan announces that he’s giving up operetta for good. However, a visit to an exhibit of Japanese art sparks an idea in Gilbert, and soon he and Sullivan are hard at work on what will become one of their greatest successes, The Mikado.
Starring Jim Broadbent, Alan Corduner and Timothy Spall, “Topsy-Turvy” was nominated for four Academy and five BAFTA Awards. The film was released in 1999, is rated R and runs for 153 minutes. Light refreshments will be served.
There is no admission charge thanks to sponsorship by the Friends of the Peter White Public Library. For more information visit www.pwpl.info or call 226-4318.
