MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN – Readers Theater welcomes the public to join in a reading of “Same Time, Next Year ” by Bernard Slade on Thursday, February 19 at 7:00pm in the Peter White Public Library Shiras Room.
This play is a comedy about New Jersey accountant, George and Oakland housewife, Doris who meet at a northern California inn in February 1951. They have an affair and agree to meet once a year, despite the fact both are married to others and have six children between them. The romantic tryst continues for 24 years.
Canadian born playwright, Bernard Slade made a name for himself in 1960-70’s era Hollywood writing the TV sitcoms Bewitched, The Flying Nun, The Partridge Family, and Bridget Loves Bernie. In 1975 Slade’s play Same Time, Next Year, was a major Broadway hit for which he received the Drama Desk Award and a Tony Award nomination for Best Play. Slade was Oscar-nominated for his 1978 screen adaptation of the same play which starred Alan Alda and Ellen Burstyn as George and Doris.
Readers Theater is a group of adults who are interested in drama and are willing and able to read a scripted role. They meet on the third Thursday of each month to read plays for enjoyment. New readers are always welcome.
