Meet the Filmmaker: Running Wild: The Life of Dayton O. Hyde

MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN – Documentary film fans and local history buffs are invited to enjoy the film Running Wild: The Life of Dayton O. Hyde and chat with the film’s director, Suzanne Mitchell, after the screening on Tuesday, August 5 at 5:30pm pm in the Peter White Public Library’s community room.

The film describes the inspiring journey of a remarkable cowboy who triumphs in his quest to protect wild horses and the American West. Dayton Hyde, born in Marquette, MI, was 13 when he fled his parents’ home and caught a freight train heading west to his uncle’s cattle ranch in Oregon.

Running Wild is Hyde’s story, featuring breathtaking scenery shot in the Black Hills Wild of South Dakota; western Oregon and Michigan’s Lake District. Footage of captured wild horses presents a stark contrast to the horses running free on the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary, which Hyde founded in 1988.

Producer/Director Suzanne Mitchell has produced numerous long and short form television series and specials as well as feature length documentaries. Winner of two Emmys, two Gracie Awards and an Omni Intermedia Award, she continues to collaborate with Academy Award-winning director Barbara Kopple. In addition to Running Wild, Mitchell is known for her work on Woodstock: Now & Then (2009) and Gun Fight (2011). Mitchell will hold a video call Q & A session with the audience after the film screening.

Viewers are welcome to bring a take out supper to enjoy in a dinner theater setting during the film.

There is no admission charge to attend the event thanks to sponsorship by the Carroll Paul Memorial Trust Fund. For more information call the Peter White Public Library at 226-4318 or visit www.pwpl.info.
