Ishpeming, Michigan – Press Release 07/02/2014 City of Ishpeming Volunteer Fire Department
The City of Ishpeming Volunteer Fire Department was called to a residence at 145 New York Street for a report of smoke coming from the residence at about 12:00pm. Upon arrival of fire crews, Firefighters found smoke coming from the rear of the home. When Firefighters entered the home, they found a room in the basement that had been on fire. A water pipe broke in the room where the fire was extinguishing much of the fire. Firefighters extinguished the remaining fire with hose lines and ventilated the home. The home’s owner, Lonnie Hess, was not home at the time of the fire. There was some smoke damage to the first and second floors of the home. Damage to the one room in the basement of the home was heavy due to smoke and water. The home was not insured. The fire remains under investigation at this time, however does not appear to be suspicious.
18 Firefighters and 2 fire trucks responded and were on scene for about 1hour, no injuries were reported.
The American Red Cross and Pigs & Heat were offering assistance to the fire victims.
