LSYT Announces Summer 2014 Youth Theatre Day Camps

MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN – The Lake Superior Youth Theatre will host an array of summer camps in the Marquette area for youth ages preschool through 12th grade. Camps will be held at Lake Superior Theatre and Graveraet School, along with a special camp in Negaunee. Sign up form available at http://www.lsyt.org/

Camps are $75 each and financial aid is available for those who qualify.

Technical Theatre Summer Camp- June 16th-20th from 12-5 p.m.

Description: each day for ages 8-18 will be able to learn a variety of backstage jobs and training. Offerings included in the camp include design, costuming, stage make-up, stage painting techniques, backstage safety and training, properties design, sound design, set design, lighting design, special effects and stage management. The camp will conclude with a Tech Olympics in which students will demonstrate their abilities to the public at 5 p.m. Location: Lake Superior Theatre, 270 Lakeshore Blvd., Marquette

Middle School/High School- Acting and Dance Camp- June 23rd-27th from 1-5 p.m.

Youth ages 12-18 will have an opportunity to be introduced or expand their skills in the Middle/High School Acting Camp. Youth will cover all aspects of acting, music, technical theatre, and dance while working on a final production. High level dance skills and acting will be focused on during the camp. Location: Lake Superior Theatre, 270 Lakeshore Blvd., Marquette

Elementary School Acting Camp- June 23rd-27th from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Youth ages 8-12 years old will have an opportunity to be introduced or expand their skills in the Elementary School Acting Camp. Youth will be introduced to all aspects of acting, music, technical theatre, and dance while working on a final production. Location: Lake Superior Theatre, 270 Lakeshore Blvd., Marquette

Preschool and Elementary School Acting Camp- July 14th-18th from 9 a.m.- 11:30 p.m.

6th Annual Drama and Dreams Playscape Camp- August 4th-8th from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m.

This summer marks the sixh anniversary of Lake Superior Theatre’s Drama & Dreams Playscape Summer Camp; a one-week theatre camp. Children with special needs are particularly encouraged to enroll. Space is limited! Due to the success of the camp for the past two years, people are already asking about it. Please sign up now to reserve your child’s spot! The camp is designed to help children, ages 8-14, work on socialization and communication skills as they learn about theatre, costume and set design, stage make-up, facial expression, voice projection, team building and leadership. Students will sing, tell stories, read poetry and develop a live performance in a fun, safe, creative environment. Drama and Dreams Playscape There will be an optional final session/award celebration for students the morning of Friday, August 26.
