May is American Wetlands Month and the Department of Natural Resources will celebrate the wonders of wetlands with a week of wetland-themed programming at nine of Michigan’s DNR visitor centers. Residents and visitors are invited to take some time to experience this amazing native ecosystem with guided hikes and programs featuring wetland habitats and wetland creatures.
Wetlands Week programs will be offered at the following locations:
- Bay City Recreation Area: Saginaw Bay Visitor Center (Bay City)
- Hartwick Pines State Park Visitor Center (Grayling)
- Hoffmaster State Park: Gillette Visitor Center (Muskegon)
- Ludington State Park (Ludington)
- Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park Visitor Center (Ontonogan)
- Tahquamenon Falls State Park (Paradise)
- Waterloo Recreation Area: Eddy Discovery Center (Chelsea)
- William Mitchell State Park: Carl T. Johnson Hunt and Fish Center (Cadillac)
- Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery Visitor Center (Mattawan)

Wetlands Week programs are part of the Michigan Waterfowl Legacy (MWL), a 10-year, cooperative partnership to restore, conserve and celebrate Michigan’s waterfowl, wetland and waterfowl hunting community. The initiative is a “call to action” to honor yesterday, engage today and build for tomorrow.
