DocuMonday presents the documentary film “Amandla!: A Revolution in Four-Part Harmony” on Monday, June 2 at 7:00 pm in the Peter White Public Library Community Room.
The film takes its name from the Zulu and Xhosa word amandla, which means power and features interviews, archival footage, and filmed performances that highlight the role of music in the South African struggle against apartheid.
“Amandla!” won the Audience Award and the Freedom of Expression Award at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival, where it was also nominated for the Grand Jury Prize. It also won awards at several other film festivals including those in Telluride, Colorado, Durban International Film Festival, South Africa and Sydney, Australia.
The film was released in 2002, is rated PG-13, runs for 108 minutes and there is no admission charge.
