Marquette, Michigan – May 1, 2014 – The Marquette City Band will perform on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. at Reynolds Recital Hall at the C.B. Hedgcock Building at Northern Michigan University. Under the direction of Dr. Stephen Grugin, the concert is free and open to all.
The concert, “Popular Then, Classic Now,” will feature a broad range of music ranging from the Beatles to Dave Brubeck. Other selections will include “Mambo” from West Side Story, “The Children’s March–Over the Hills and Far Away” by Percy Grainger, as well as “Emperata Overture” by Claude T. Smith. Jacob Barnby, recent winner of the NMU Department of Music’s Concerto Competition, will also be playing James Curnow’s “Rhapsody for Euphonium.”
