MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN – Let’s Talk About It: Muslim Journeys hosts a free screening of the feature film “The Kite Runner” on Monday, April 14 at 5:30 pm in the Peter White Public Library Community Room.
This American Golden Globe and Academy Award nominated drama tells the story of Amir, a well-to-do boy from Kabul, who is tormented by the guilt of abandoning his friend Hassan, the son of his father’s servant. The story is set against a backdrop of tumultuous events, from the fall of the monarchy in Afghanistan through the Soviet military intervention, the mass exodus of Afghan refugees to Pakistan and the United States, and the Taliban regime.
Based on the bestselling book by Afghan-American author Khaled Hosseini, “The Kite Runner” was released in 2007, is rated PG-13 and runs for 128 minutes. Viewers are invited to bring a take-out supper to enjoy during the film screening.
The Let’s Talk About It: Muslim Journeys initiative is a scholar-led reading and discussion program designed to foster opportunities for informed community conversations to familiarize public audiences with the people and cultures of Muslims in this country and around the world.
The program series has been made possible through a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities in cooperation with the American Library Association.
