MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN – In celebration of the Great Michigan Read, DocuMonday presents the documentary film “Stories We Tell” on Monday, April 7 at 7:00 pm in the Peter White Public Library Community Room.
“Stories We Tell” explores the elusive nature of truth and memory, but at its core is a deeply personal film about how our narratives shape and define us as individuals and families, all interconnecting to paint a profound, funny and poignant picture of the larger human story. Written and directed by Sarah Polley, the film explores her family’s secrets—including one intimately related to Polley’s own identity.
The multi-award winning documentary was released in 2012, is rated PG-13 and runs for 108 minutes. There is no admission charge thanks to sponsorship by the Friends of the Peter White Public Library.
The Michigan Humanities Council’s Great Michigan Read is a book club for the entire state. With a statewide focus on a single book – “Annie’s Ghosts: A Journey into a Family Secret” by Steve Luxenberg – it aims to connect us as Michiganians by deepening our understanding of our state, our society, and our history.
