(Marquette, Michigan) – The public is invited to a screening of the film “Arranged” on Monday, February 24 at 5:30 pm in the Peter White Public Library Community Room.
“Arranged” is a dramatic comedy about Rochel, an Orthodox Jew, and Nasira, a Muslim of Syrian origin. They are both beautiful young teachers at a public school in Brooklyn. They also have something else in common – they are going through the process of getting “arranged marriages” through their respective religious and traditional customs.
With both family pressure on the one hand, and the rejection of traditional values by the outside world on the other, Rochel and Nasira will have to rely on each other and their friendship to pull through this difficult time of their lives, striving to be strong women in charge of their own happiness, while keeping their deep religious and cultural convictions.
Winner of six film festival awards, “Arranged” was released in 2007, is rated PG-13 and runs for 90 minutes.
The Let’s Talk About It: Muslim Journeys initiative is a scholar-led reading and discussion program designed to foster opportunities for informed community conversations to familiarize public audiences with the people and cultures of Muslims in this country and around the world.
The program series has been made possible through a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities in cooperation with the American Library Association and there is no admission charge.
