127th Annual Ski Jumping Tournament Wednesday, February 5th

127th Annual Ski Jumping Tournament Wednesday, February 5, 2014 @ Suicide Hill Ski Bowl

Ishpeming, Michigan – Hosting the longest consecutive ski jumping tournament in the United States the Ishpeming Ski Club will hold its 127th annual ski jumping competition on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at the famous Suicide Hill ski jump. The event will start at 6pm.

Admission buttons will be $10 in advance and $15 at the gate. Kids 12 and under are free. Buttons will be available at several local outlets in the Ishpeming, Negaunee and Marquette area. This tournament will feature some of the top United States jumpers as well as international jumpers competing in the Central Division Five Hill Tournament.

The Five Hill Tournament is a ski jumping event series hosted by five ski clubs in the Central Division of the USA Ski Jumping. Ishpeming will be the final tournament of the series where the overall winners will be decided. It also falls prior to the Pine Mountain Continental Cup ski jumping tournament held the following weekend at Iron Mountain. The five clubs pool money to fund the overall prize money and to help with travel costs for the visiting foreign teams. By having a series of tournaments in two weeks the event attracts high level ski jumpers from across the United States to compete. It gives the U.S. jumpers the opportunity to compete against foreign competition.

Another function of the Ishpeming Ski Club is to promote ski jumping and cross country skiing through a youth ski program. The jumping program takes place Tuesday, Wednesday and Thrusday evening from 6:30 to 7:30pm. The cross-country ski program is held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30pm. The ski bowl has stadium lighting which allows these programs to take place in a safe environment.
