Marquette – “Longyear at Spitzbergen” will be presented on Wednesday, October 2 at 7 p.m. at the Marquette Regional History Center in Marquette.
What would prompt J.M. Longyear to invest in a desolate island halfway between Norway and the North Pole? Listen to this fascinating story as presenters Patrick Martin, professor of anthropological archaeology at Michigan Technological University, who has visited and studied the Longyear mining operations at Spitzbergen and Fred Tibbitts, whose uncle Fred Burrall was manager of operations at Spitzbergen, share their stories.
There is a $5 suggested donation for this event. Please visit www.marquettehistory.org, Like the MRHC on Facebook, or call 226-3571 for more information.
