eter White Public Library today announced that Jeff Vande Zande –
author of American Poet: A Novel– will pay a special visit to the
Marquette library on Thursday, June 27 at 7:00 PM for an evening of
first-rate storytelling; book signing and question-and-answer time
with guests.
Vande Zande’s visit is part of the Library of Michigan’s 2013
“Michigan Notable Authors Tour.” This year, 20 authors whose
engaging works were chosen as Michigan Notable Books selections will
visit nearly 50 libraries throughout the state. Michigan Notable Books is designed to promote reading and raise awareness of Michigan’s literary heritage. The program’s annual selections are reflective of Michigan’s diverse ethnic, historical, literary and cultural experience.
Jeff Vande Zande writes poetry, fiction, and screenplays. In addition
to American Poet: A Novel, his fiction includes Emergency Stopping and Other Stories and Landscape with Fragmented Figures. He grew up inMarquette and now lives in Midland, MI and teaches at Delta College.
Vande Zande’s book, American Poet: A Novel was published by Bottom
Dog Press in 2012. Set in Saginaw, this short novel is a coming of age story of a young poet returning home after graduating from college. Vande Zande’s story circles from documenting the survival of a
failed relationship, finding beauty and value in a broken city,
locating common ground with an aging father and orchestrating a plan
to save the Theodore Roethke House. This beautifully written book
champions the power of poetry and gives a solid voice to society’s
underdogs.
