Metro D.C. Forensic Scientist Speaks at NMU

MARQUETTE, Mich.—A forensic scientist from the metro Washington, D.C. area will break down his profession during a presentation at Northern Michigan University. Ray Wickenheiser, laboratory director of the Montgomery County Police Crime Laboratory in Maryland, will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in 103 Jamrich Hall. The public is invited free of charge.

Wickenheiser will explore CSI on TV versus real life, the strengths and limitations of DNA tests, forensic science developments over the past 30 years and the future role of science in crime-scene investigations.

Wickenheiser has many years of experience as a forensic scientist, served as a lead DNA auditor and is the author of a chapter in the Encyclopedia of Forensic Science. This event is sponsored by NMU’s departments of biology, chemistry and criminal justice, along with the student Forensic Biochemistry Club.
