Kayak and canoe volunteers are needed for the upcoming Swim Teal Lake for Diabetes. The 9th Annual Swim Teal Lake for Diabetes will be held on Saturday, July 28. This 2.25 mile swim across Teal Lake begins with the first group of swimmers leaving the Negaunee beach at 8:30 a.m. with the second group departing at 9:00 a.m. A safety briefing for all swimmers and volunteer paddlers will be held 15 minutes prior to the swim start. A special prize drawing will also be held for any paddle volunteers also gathering monetary donations for the swim.
Swim Teal Lake for Diabetes is a fundraiser supported by Bell Hospital for the U.P. Diabetes Outreach Network’s (UPDON) many projects including Camp UPeninsulin. Camp is an annual event for U.P. children with diabetes ages 9 – 15 years, which allows them to spend time together learning, sharing and having fun at very little cost to families. Fundraisers such as Swim Teal Lake help UPDON provide free and affordable programs and projects for the benefit of U.P. residents.
Anyone interested in providing paddle support or donating to Swim Teal Lake should contact UPDON at 228-9203. For more information or to register online for the swim, please visit http://teallakeswim.com or www.diabetesinmichigan.org.
