The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), in partnership with numerous traffic safety partners across the country, is supporting National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) to raise awareness and further improve roadway safety for all workers, drivers and their passengers. This year’s NWZAW national campaign theme is: “Roadway Work Zone Safety – We’re All in This Together.”
A joint press event will be held on the steps of Michigan’s Capitol on Wednesday, April 17, at 10:30 a.m. where officials from MDOT, the County Road Association of Michigan (CRAM), the Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association (MITA), and the Michigan State Police (MSP) will speak about roadway safety. MDOT will release the 2012 work zone crash statistics and Captain Safety, a 12-foot-tall construction barrel superhero, will make an appearance.
A public service announcement produced by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) has been released to remind the public about the importance of work zone safety. The video can be found on the AASHTO YouTube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1R_OAf5yVRM.
