Peter White Public Library Book Group Meetings in May

Tuesday, May 1, 2012.  The Peter White Public Library Book Group will meet at 7 p.m. in the Dandelion Cottage Room at the library to discuss Bliss, Remembered by sportswriter and novelist Frank DeFord.  Now an elderly woman, Sydney Stringfellow recounts for her son her experiences as a swimmer at the 1936 Berlin Olympics where she had an unforgettable and forbidden love affair with the son of a Nazi diplomat.  When politics separate them, she goes home to nurse her broken heart and meets Jimmy, a kind young American who restores her faith in love and marries her before being shipped off to the Pacific theater of WWII.  When Horst shows up on her doorstep, though, Sydney is torn and must decide what she is willing to do for love.  New members are welcome.  For more information, please call Caroline Jordan, 226-4312.

Wednesday, May 9, 2012.  Once Upon A Crime, the book group for mystery lovers will meet to discuss New Zealand author Ngaio Marsh’s Artists in Crime at 7 p.m. in the Dandelion Cottage Room at the library.  Chief Detective Inspector Alleyn meets his wife, artist Agatha Troy in this mystery from the golden age . This is a first rate yarn, with an unusual set-up—the  murder of an artist’s model in view of whole class, everyone of whom is suspect, and most of whom had the opportunity. Clues point hither and yon, but most of them to one man — who is found murdered also. New members are welcome.  For more information, please call Caroline Jordan, 226-4312.

Wednesday, May 16, 2012.  The Central Upper Peninsula Chapter of the Sierra Club will meet at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library to hear Dr. Jackie Bird’s “Tick Talk”.  With our recent warm weather bringing ticks out, you won’t want to miss her discussion of the variety, biology and ecology of ticks in the Upper Peninsula.  For more information, please call John Rebers, 228-3617.
