Marquette – The fourth annual Celebration of the U.P. will be held Friday, March 30 and Saturday, March 31 at The Landmark Inn, Peter White Public Library and the Federated Women’s Clubhouse on North Front Street in Marquette.
On Friday evening, Carl Lindquist will provide a prelude with original piano compositions inspired by Lake Superior. George Desort will then speak on his 38 days alone on Isle Royale, where he gathered footage for his latest film project, Fifty Lakes One Island.
On Saturday, between 10 a.m. and 2:45 p.m., speakers will provide a series of talks on painting winter, historic 3-D photography, and search and rescue training. From 3 to 4:45 p.m. the panel discussion “Lifeways on the Land” will take place in the library’s community room.
A public reception will be held following the panel discussion at the Federated Women’s Clubhouse. Buck LaVasseur’s recent episode of “Discovering” in celebration of the life of Dr. Bill Robinson, a founding member of UPEC, will be shown.
