Marquette – The Peter White Public Library invites the public to register for an Oral History Workshop to learn how to preserve treasured family memories. Russell Magnaghi, Director of the Center of Upper Peninsula Studies at Northern Michigan University will lead the two session workshop to be held on Tuesdays March 13 and 20 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Community Room of the library.
Participants will learn the techniques and principles of doing oral history. Topics covered during the two sessions are: the importance of oral histories; the process of organizing an oral history project; how to identify interviewees and contact them; setting up the interview; what questions to ask; equipment to use; transcribing; legal issues; release forms; where to store the finished interview and much more.
As part of the workshop, attendees will conduct their own interviews and have the opportunity to present them on Sunday, April 29 at 2:00 pm in the Community Room on the lower level of the library. The public is welcome to attend this final session.
Registration is required for this workshop because of limited class size. Call the library at 226-4318 for more information or to sign up. There is no charge to attend.
