Marquette – Join NMU’s First Lady and amateur historian Phyllis Wong for a presentation on the “Gossard Girls” on Wednesday, February 29 at 7 p.m. in the Shiras Room of the Peter White Public Library.
The contributions of the these Upper Peninsula working women enriched the social, political and economic history of the area.
From 1920-1976, the H. W. Gossard Company, a Chicago-based, women’s undergarment company, operated two plants in Marquette County in addition to facilities all over the world. For over half a century these local factories employed hundreds of workers, primarily female.
