Marquette – The DocuMonday will present a screening of “Touching the Void” on Monday, January 9 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library.
The film is the true story of two mountain climbers and their perilous journey up the west face of Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes in 1985. “Touching the Void” is based on the book of the same name by Joe Simpson about his and Simon Yates’ disastrous and near fatal attempt to climb the 20,813 foot peak.
The film combines documentary footage of interviews conducted with Simpson, Yates and fellow climber, Richard Hawking, with a re-enactment performed by actors Brendan Mackey, Nicholas Aaron and Ollie Ryall.
“Touching the Void” is directed by Oscar winner, Kevin MacDonald and won five film festival awards. The documentary was released in 2003, is rated R for language and runs for 106 minutes.
