Marquette – November is Native American Heritage Month and several related events are planned at Northern Michigan University.
The Upper Peninsula Folklife Festival presents a workshop titled “Making Wild Rice Sticks” on Saturday, November 12 at 8:30 a.m. at the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center in 105 Cohodas Hall.
Roger Labine of the Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa has been harvesting manoomin, or wild rice, his entire life. He will lead the workshop.
The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Call 227-1219 for more information.
