Marquette, MI – October 4, 2011- The Northern Michigan University College Democrats will be hosting the Hidden City Sleep-Out, a cardboard home building competition designed to raise awareness about homelessness. It will be taking place in the Academic Mall on the campus of Northern Michigan University in Marquette. Participating groups are asked to donate $10 or 10 nonperishable items, with all proceeds benefiting St. Vincent DePaul of Marquette. The event will begin at 6PM on Tuesday, October 4th and will conclude at 9AM on Wednesday, October 5th, with the judging of the homes. Home building will take place between 6PM on Tuesday, and 1AM on Wednesday.
In order to be judged and awarded, homes must meet the building guidelines put forth by the event organizers, and at least two participants must stay in the home overnight. Homes will be judged based on the following categories: most creative, most functional, and largest home.
