Michigan Iron Industry Museum Hosts Fall Festival Sept. 17

The Michigan Iron Industry Museum will serve up a bushel of fall fun, featuring music, free pony rides, games, a farmer’s and artist’s market and more at its Fall Fest on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“Fall Fest is a time to celebrate the autumn season and our rich, regional history with family and friends,” said Michigan Historical Center education specialist Barry James. “Visitors will enjoy watching international dancing, listening to live music, playing old-time games, eating delicious samples of local foods, and much more during this fun-filled event.”

Throughout the day, Bell Memorial YMCA of Negaunee will offer “Old Time Fun for Everyone” children’s activities, local musicians Dan Goodreau and Nick Johnson will perform, and Raynor Johnson of Champion will provide free pony rides. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the NMU International Dancers will perform and local storyteller Tyler Tichelaar will speak at 1 p.m.

Metalworking, copper weaving, quilting, wool spinning and other arts and crafts demonstrations will take place throughout the event, and a farmer’s and artist’s market will offer local produce, jams, baked goods and art for sale.

Marquette Baking Company and Doncker’s of Marquette will also be on hand with free food samples, and the Museum Advisory Board will provide coffee, cider and donuts.

The Michigan Iron Industry Museum entrance is located on U.S.-41 E, one mile west of Junction M-35, in Negaunee Township . Admission is free, but donations to support the museum’s educational programming are encouraged.
