MARQUETTE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE PRESS RELEASE
DATE OF INCIDENT: August 26, 2011
LOCATION OF INCIDENT: Republic Township
Marquette, Michigan – The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call in Republic Township about 11:00 this morning where a 44 year old Ohio man was found deceased due to an apparent chainsaw accident. The subject from Chagrin Falls, Ohio was found by an employee of Ferrellgas. The man had made contact with the Ferrellgas employee earlier and advised he was going to clear some small trees away from the roadway so their truck could make a delivery to the subject’s camp. After the camp owner failed to return to the truck, the Ferrellgas employee went looking for the subject and found him apparently deceased and called 911.
Sheriff’s Deputies report it appears the subject might have slipped and fell while trying to cut branches overhead and the saw landed on his neck and chest. He was wearing protective headgear with a face shield but the saw apparently slid under the guard cutting his throat and chest. The subject was alone at the time.
Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Michigamme/Spur First Responders and Bell EMS. No foul play is expected and the accident remains under investigation.
