Marquette – Joe Rogers, a biologist, raptor researcher and wildlife rehabilitator from Shepherd, Michigan will highlight the MooseWood Nature Center’s spring fundraiser on Saturday, May 7 in the Sandy Knoll Elementary School gym. Rogers will give presentations at 1 and 4 p.m.
A $20 donation per family is suggested. The program will feature an array of live raptors, possibly including barred, great horned and northern saw-whet owls, red-tailed and rough-legged hawks, merlin and turkey vulture.
Rogers and his wife, Barb, operate a wildlife rehabilitation center and treat up to 300 animals a year, including many hawks, owls and eagles. Many are successfully treated and released back to the wild. Some are not releasable due to permanent injuries, especially to wings and eyes.
