Marquette – Northern Michigan University will celebrate “Wildcat Flashback: 75 Years of Homecoming Pride” through Saturday, September 25.
Student activities, including the Dead River Games and king and queen competition, are planned throughout the week. Alumni receptions and community activities are scheduled Friday and Saturday. For details, visit www.nmu.edu/alumni.
The NMU political science and public administration department will hold a symposium titled “After Evil: Politics and Human Rights” at 3 p.m., Friday in Reynolds Recital Hall. The guest speaker is Robert Meister, professor of social sciences and political thought at the University of California Santa Cruz. There is no charge and the public is invited.
The parade at 5:30 p.m. Friday on Third Street has been rescheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. due to predicted unfavorable weather. Alumni receptions at the Landmark Inn will still take place as planned.
Saturday’s events will include a historical marker dedication for the Barracks Boys at 12:15 p.m. on the University Center lawn. The Barracks was one of the housing units originally constructed for use during World War II and purchased by NMU for instant housing to accommodate a booming student population at the end of the war, housing male student-athletes from across the peninsula.
