Marquette – The Central Upper Peninsula Chapter of the Sierra Club is sponsoring kayak outing to Wetmore beach Saturday, August 14, meeting at 10 a.m. at the beach in Middle Bay at Presque Isle Park in Marquette, located near the pavilion adjacent to the former caretaker’s home.
Participants will paddle past Middle and Partridge islands and explore the rocky shore on the way to the Wetmore beach, stopping at the beach for a picnic before returning to Presque Isle.
Round trip paddling distance is approximately 12 miles. Participants who do not want to kayak the entire distance can meet up with the group at the Wetmore beach. Bring a sea kayak with bulkheads or flotation devices and a spray skirt, wear a PFD, and dress appropriately.
To register for the entire outing or the trip from Wetmore to Marquette, call John Rebers at 250-0442. The trip may be postponed if the marine forecast suggests the weather or wave conditions would be unsafe.
