Ishpeming – Cliffs Natural Resources Michigan Operations will open its mining area and processing facility to visitors from Tuesday, June 22 through August. One three-hour tour per day will be offered Tuesdays through Saturdays.
A Marq-Tran bus will depart from the Marquette Lake Superior Community Partnership office at noon and arrive at at 12:30 p.m. at the Cliffs Shaft Museum in Ishpeming. Others will meet at 12:30 p.m. at the museum.
Visitors will receive a video presentation and orientation prior to the bus departing to the mine, then will view mining operations at the Cliffs’ Empire facility, and ore processing at the Tilden concentrator and pelletizing plant. The tour will return to the museum, then to the Marquette LSCP office.
Tickets cost $15 and are available at the Marquette LSCP office and at the Ishpeming LSCP office, 215 W. Hematite Drive. Tour space is limited and available on a first come, first served basis; advance reservations are recommended.
The minimum age for the tour is 10 years; age 17 or younger must be accompanied by an adult.
