WQXO – AM 1400 is seeking to hire a part-time morning Host, Interviewer (reporter), and community promotions specialist (some Marketing).
High School Diploma/G.E.D. Required.
An organized, pleasant speaker that can learn new things and keeps cool under stress are the best traits to start with.
Computer knowledge and comfort a must. Should be comfortable with office productivity products like Microsoft Office, Email, Online posting, and be comfortable with MS Windows. As part of reporting duties, light-duty ability to post a photo, work with MP3s (and/or Wav) files as well a regular short postings to our website will be expected.
Ability to work in high pressure situations is helpful for success, but the ability to keep your cool, instill confidence, and learn new software and equipment is a must.
The main focus of this position is mostly about the passion for serving your town through promotion of local events, happenings, businesses and interviews.

Position
WQXO – AM 1400 is seeking Show Host, Interviewer, and Community Promotions Specialist for about two to three hours each dayat the Munising Studio in the Navigator Restaurant, M-F.
Applicants will need to be computer savvy, work with a studio board (after training) and software and be very proficient while handling people and phones/equipment at the same time. Furthermore, the preferred candidate will have a strong desire to promote and serve Munising and Alger County listeners.
Obviously multitasking is a must while keeping calm through any and all “oops” moments. And there will be “oops” moments!
Knowledge of Oldies & Classic music can be learned. With the best candidates, computer skills and radio board skills, phone, interview, audio editing, and community promotions skills can be learned in a short time. The successful candidate should be able to grow and develop their skills quickly while maintaining good control of themselves and their Interviews. Email, web posts, and typical activities with social networking sites and scheduling events and interviews are also part of job.
Ability to tell stories about history, community and the local Munising or Alger area is helpful. Ability to coax others to tell stories is even more important. Genuine personality is preferred to “radio voice” applicants.
Setting up Interviews, working a contact list of Interviews, growing community contact list (especially for Interviews), and keeping the ball rolling for two hours a day is really important.
Previous radio experience not required, but an organized, quick-learner is a must.
Successful candidate will be able setup and conduct interviews (including recording and editing them), plus post summary of Interviews (usually with photos) on web. Ability to do telephone Interviews, In-Studio Interviews, and Field Interviews will be required quickly;the ability to learn quickly to do these radio-related skills can’t be understated.
Candidate Should be good at reading (ads/live reads/spots/promos/announcements) for sponsors, reading weather, reading local and state sports scores, and announcing local news items, birthdays, calendar items, and school closings. Unexpected things arise, so the successful candidate should be adaptable enough to smoothly work out problems on the fly.
The successful Candidate should be able to take incoming information, organize it, and followup to provide community with real sense of LOCAL flavor and LOCAL interests. Candidate should be able to make any event or news relevant to listeners and our web visitors.
Candidate should be able to work with little or no supervision once trained and have the qualities of a self-starter, motivated person.
Having connection to local community organization and businesses is also a good positive trait, but the ability to grow and multiply relationships with relevant community organizations and businesses is even more important.

Additional Requirements
Comfort and confidence in establishing community connections, maintaining community and business relationships, completing details according to company policies designed to satisfy clients and community with timely, professional, and creative results.
Proficiency with basic computer skills including but not limited to: e-mail and webmail, phone, fax machine, Microsoft Office or OpenOffice.org (Great Lakes Radio, Inc. uses open-source Office clone).
Ability to be trained and thoroughly learn industry specific software and Internal Intranet and other web-related tools are a must. Ability to post on web short summaries of daily guests, interviews, calendar items, and upcoming events.
The ability to multi-task, understand Munising & Alger market and community needs. Ability to listen and accurately communicate and gather newsworthy, quality news related to broadcast area on topics as wide ranging as business, history, markets, politics, policies, entertainment, music.
Ability to do live in-studio interviews as well as live and recorded phone interviews.
Ability to be trained quickly and learn to creatively apply learning to the needs and desires of clients and community is also a must, including but not limited to producing on-air commercial spots and doing remote news, events, and other coverage from time-to-time. Excellent communication skills, pleasant public presentation, creative insights preferred.
While not required, a candidate with or willing to develop some fundamental community promotions skills and presentation skills may allow them to potentially enhance income by participating in certain marketing promotions and sales opportunities from time-to-time.
